2007 House Bill 2419 (Providing a state property tax rebate)

  • Introduced by Rep. Dan Roach, (R-Bonney Lake) on November 29, 2007, This bill mandates that the Department of Revenue refund to real property owners four-hundred dollars in the form of vouchers. The vouchers would be used for a real property owner to identify one of five departments that they choose to send their voucher for the purpose of funding that department. The revenues for this program will to be designated by the Legislature.

I really thought that a large part of why I elect my state representatives is so that they can represent my interests in determining the budget. Can you picture 5 departments doing statewide PR campaigns to try to woo property owners for their vouchers?

Isn't it a bit classist to allow only property owners to determine budget priorities?

Historically, were not voters the
property owners, the tax payers? A
poll tax, as it were. One even had
learn to read before registering to
vote in Colorado, well into the '60's.
